Our Story
From DARPA research to leading the AI revolution—a journey of scientific excellence and bold innovation—Loop AI Group stands as a research-driven applied lab and the world’s first independent AI company.
2012. A decade before the mainstream AI boom, GM Calafiore founded Loop AI Labs in California as the world’s first independent AI company and private applied research lab, with the bold mission of helping machines understand the human world..
This early, foundational work anticipated a transformative shift for humanity and would later give rise to the now-ubiquitous AI industry, projected to add $20–23 trillion annually to the global economy by 2040 (McKinsey 2025).

A Legacy of Scientific Excellence
Loop AI Group stands on a bedrock of unparalleled AI expertise, its scientific and engineering team forged in the crucible of elite research institutions like the Artificial Intelligence Center at SRI International directed since 1995 by Dr. Vinay Chaudhri and Stanford’s Computational Semantics Lab. This team was instrumental in the transformative $200M DARPA CALO project (Cognitive Assistant that Learns and Organizes) in 2006—the largest government-funded AI endeavor ever—laying the groundwork for cutting-edge cognitive systems. SRI, working mainly for government and military research since 1946, has driven innovations like the Internet’s first connection, AI-powered defense solutions, and CIA remote viewing, partnering with DARPA and the U.S. Armed Forces. Its legacy fuels standout companies—Intuitive Surgical, Nuance Communications (Microsoft), Siri (Apple), Tempo AI (Salesforce)—and, most notably, Loop AI Group, a trailblazer in enterprise AI deeply rooted in these world-class research powerhouses.

This heritage matters. Loop's applied research approach to AI has always been grounded in solving real-world complexity—not incremental improvements to existing paradigms, but fundamental rethinking of how machines can understand and interact with the world.

Global Recognition and Technology Validation
2016. After many intense years of applied research and real-world technology validation, Loop came out of stealth and quickly made its mark. IDC, the first major analyst firm to map the early AI landscape, highlighted Loop in its reports as the world’s first independent AI company along the labs of large tech companies.

This recognition positioned its platforms as pioneers in language understanding across any language learned directly from raw data without human supervision or labels, later extending into multimodality and validated through real-world use cases with major organizations worldwide, reflecting deep learning research the company has advanced since its inception in 2012.
Since that pivotal moment, Loop has brought its vision to life by deploying AI agents—then called cognitive bots—that learned directly from white collars in large organizations and mastered complex, knowledge-based tasks using the data and the same legacy systems once handled only by humans.
Its innovation took flight through rigorous technology validation including with Fortune 100 organizations, first in Asia—where its language-agnostic framework demolished linguistic barriers—before seamlessly validating its technology into Europe and the USA, proving its unmatched scalability and transformative edge.

Predicting The Quantum AI Leap
2018. While the world celebrated early deep learning successes, Loop’s research team noticed what others overlooked: neural networks were approaching a hard ceiling. We asserted that the next major leap in AI would go beyond deep learning, as its architecture could never tap the full power of quantum computing’s first principles. Recognizing this, we began pioneering research to build the entirely new foundation that the next AI revolution would demand.

The AI Agent Era
2020. After years of manually building AI agents to validate its core Loop Q platform across many industries and real-world use cases with large organizations, the company introduced Loop AI Agents Orchestra in 2020. This dedicated platform, integrated with Loop Q Cognitive Platform, made it easy to create AI agents through a simple drag-and-drop interface while supporting any AI technology available on the market.

This platform delivers a next-generation AI command center—enabling swift testing of state-of-the-art AI, ML, and LLM technologies against production data, while seamlessly integrating components within deployed AI agent frameworks.

Forging The Next Generation AI
2025. As the frontier models ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Grok were approaching the hard limits of classical AI—constrained by architecture, power grids, and terawatt-scale data centers—Loop AI Group launched Loop Quantum AI Labs. Emerging from stealth as a separate research lab, unlike incremental improvements to existing neural architectures, Loop Quantum AI Labs builds from quantum-first principles to break through the probabilistic and scaling limits that constrain classical AI. This new frontier enables modeling of extraordinarily complex systems—from molecular interactions to intricate natural phenomena—that neural-net-based AI could not handle even with every GPU and all the electricity on Earth for the next ten years.

While Loop AI Labs continues advancing enterprise AI agents and orchestration platforms toward increasingly powerful classical AI systems, Loop Quantum AI Labs had anticipated the quantum revolution—creating a new class of AI capable of solving humanity's most critical challenges through quantum-native simulation and computation.

In 2025, the company raised capital at a $4.2 billion valuation.
